Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- Get a good night’s rest before your appointment.
- DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING 8 HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT (this includes water, gum, hard candy, etc.) ALSO, DO NOT DRINK ANY ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES 24 HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR SURGERY DAY! DOING SO WILL RESULT IN THE CANCELLATION OF YOUR SURGERY.
- No smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in their car during the entire procedure, and drive the patient home.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves or sleeves which can be loosely rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes.
- Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery including oral, nasal, tongue and other facial piercings.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish or acrylic nails on either index finger on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or upset bowels, please notify the office.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Belton prior to your surgical date for instructions. If you use an inhaler or glucometer, please bring it to your appointment.
